Southampton Libraries are running a reading contest with a heroes certificate for participants.
Follow Southampton City Libraries because you can pick up the Summer Reading Challenge pack free: collectors folder and smelly stickers from all libraries and if you can read 6 or share 6 books with your child you can pick up the 2nd celebration pack which includes a certificate, a gold medal and pencil .
Woolston, Bitterne and Central libraries will also have free craft packs available each week - just ask in the library!

The art gallery is also running various family workshops throughout summer. They can all be found on the website and are not expensive. This particular one is free!
Solent Sky Museum is £20 for a family ticket and does not need booking in advance.
Tudor House and Garden is history rich and interactive. The gardens are beautiful and you can easily spend a few hours here. A family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children is £17.
God's House Tower showcases art and has an abundance of history within its walls. A family ticket will cost you £8 and is available to buy in advance on their website
Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre is subject to opening again. The opening hours are weekdays 11-3 and Sunday 12-4.
Eling Tide Mill Experience is running a groupon offer for £13.50 for a family ticket. It’s a good place to go in any weather and has great walks nearby.
ODEON Cinemas do movies for juniors at £3.25 a ticket.
We love the Hamble - Warsash Ferry the staff are the friendliest people you’ll ever meet! Hamble is a great place to explore. You can catch the ferry over to Warsash where there is a great nature reserves. From Southampton you’ll need the number 6 first bus.
HYTHE FERRY has just reopened after months of trying to save it! Show your support and ride the worlds oldest pier train at the same time! Hythe is lovely for crabbing and has a great park too!
Speaking of crabbing, Woolston, Vicky park, Woodmill are great for that. And it’s free!
The Reptile Shop in Merryoak is amazing for a quick visit. The guys are really friendly, informative and if you are lucky you’ll get to see some animals being handled. St Marks and Peartree Church run various messy church events which are always fun with loads of activities. This is a free event but bring yourself a picnic. The next one is 27th of July and a space can be booked by emailing Pat Hawkins firstname.lastname@example.org Speaking of Peartree, have you heard the story of Richard Parker? I won’t spoil it but his grave is here, and he was the inspiration for The Life Of Pi. If it’s a hot day then pop over the road to Peartree Green, you can spend ages building dens there and you can look for lizards!

Southampton Children's Play Association run play schemes throughout the summer hols. Play sessions are 10-12 and 1-3. Dress for mess! This is for age 5-12. They welcome volunteers age 13 and up so is accessible for all...of course babies welcome.

Investing in a family and friends rail card always helps us, we get about 40% off of train ticket prices. As an example one adult and 3 kids from Woolston to Southsea in advance costs me around £13. It’s great for when you do want to go further afield on a budget. Winchester, Netley and Brockenhurst are other favourites that are always cheap to purchase!
